TfaC in Malawi

Teacher Training and HIV Prevention

newsTheatre for a Change is running a Teacher Training programme in Malawi, funded by the Medicor Foundation, The British Council, GTZ and ArtVenture.

We have trained a core group of Malawian facilitators in child centred approaches to HIV prevention. This group of trainers will be posted to Teacher Training Colleges across Malawi in October 2008, where they will train student teachers how to protect themselves against HIV infection and how to use child centred approaches to HIV provention with the children they teach.

Community Work

Over the last year we have established a group of sex workers who want to protect themselves from HIV infection, have access to HIV testing and medication, and to influence policies and practices that make their lives so dangerous. This programme is funded by The Saving Grace Foundation - indeed, Grace Mathanga, in whose name the Foundation was established, is working with us as a Community Link Worker to provide the women in group with support and guidance in HIV Counselling and Testing and in Anti Retroviral Therapy.

Both these are exciting developments, and we are grateful for the continued support of our funders. We look forward to taking both programmes forwards into the long term future as Theatre for a Change grows in Malawi.
