We are running a project for sex workers, who will become peer facilitators. This group is particularly important as a result of their vulnerability and the fact that they are stigmatised and abused. They are also engaged in a process of behaviour change, and will be advocating for their rights through a process called legislative theatre. This programme is funded by The Saving Grace Foundation - Grace Mathanga, in whose name the Foundation was established, is working as a Community Link Worker, enabling the women in the group to access HIV Counselling and Testing and Anti Retroviral Therapy.

Former sex workers are now peer facilitators

This film was made by Leanne Welham in Malawi with the group of women who have been working on the Theatre for a Change sex work programme. It features women from the core group of former sex workers who have been with Theatre for a Change for two years. They are now employed by the organisation to work as peer facilitators among younger people getting involved in sex work. The women also perform their stories to a variety of audiences with a view to changing opinions and policies - this is the process known as Legislative Theatre.
