About this author

Initially I went to Malawi in April 2008 to work as a volunteer for Theatre for A Change for 4 months but ended up staying for much longer. I am now back in the UK but am still working for Theatre for a Change. I want to be a part of the online video exchange between Aberdeen and Malawi because I am passionate about education as the future of both the UK and Malawi and I think there is a lot of shared learning that can help us to achieve our goals. In order to ensure the highest standard of teaching across the globe we must first look to our teachers as they are the role models for our future generations. As a child I remember the teachers who really inspired me and taught me more than just the subjects on the timetable - the ones who really made a difference. I moved around a lot as a child, went to many different schools so there was a lot of instability in my life and particularly education. It was certain pro-active teachers who took an interest in my well being who helped me to cope with difficult situations. Equally, for me, sexual health and well being have always been directly linked to my self esteem and confidence. Why I have relationships, how I make decisions about them, what kind of relationships I have and how I conduct myself has a huge impact on every area of my life. For me these issues become even more complicated in modern society when there is so much pressure to succeed.
